Week 2 (Health): Nuts about Nuts

This week’s life goal is to pack a variety of healthy “nut snacks.” The human body was not meant to eat three massive meals a day and nothing in between. Of course everyone’s body is different and each of us must honor that. However, most people find that eating healthy snacks throughout the day helps maintain the body’s insulin levels. At the same time, it encourages us to eat healthier and smaller portions during our larger meals. To avoid “blood sugar crashes” and a feeling of exhaustion in between meals, make a conscious effort this week to pack three or four little “nut snacks.” Stores such as Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods sell prepackaged trail mixes, but a better solution is to prepare your own “nut only” mix. Simply buy separate packages of almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, cashews, etc., and make your own favorite mix.

All of these nuts/seeds have amazing health benefits. For example, walnuts not only are shaped like a brain, but also coincidentally are one of the best “brain power” foods, rich in omega-3 fatty acids essential for cognitive function. If you prepack and take these nut snacks with you wherever you are throughout the day, you will notice that you feel better and have more energy.
