Week 10 (Health) Goal: Post Workout Drink

Post Workout Shakes After your be BETTER workout, consume a recovery post workout drink!

Post-workout drinks are engineered to help your body recover fast from an intense workout. Nutrients in post-workout drinks help turn the body from a “muscle breakdown” state into a “muscle growth” state. They are meant to improve your performance, reduce muscle soreness and speed up your recovery time.

Why consume a recovery drink post-workout?

1.)   After a workout your body needs to recover, so 15 to 30 minutes following a workout is the best time to consume a recovery drink. Your muscles need “fuel” to start the repair process. If they don’t get that fuel, they will not recover. That means your body will become sore and will not build the muscle you want.

2.)   At this stage, your body needs something full of nutrients that it can digest easily. Therefore, consuming a liquid is better than eating solid food.

3.)   You need to neutralize the acid state your body creates during exercise. Greens, veggies or fruits (lemons/limes) have a neutralizing effect.

Here are some tips for making a simple recovery drink:

  • Frozen bananas, pineapples, honey, whey protein, 1 cup water, spinach, almond milk, pinch of sea salt.
  • Milk products are hard for your body to digest, as are many heavy protein powders in stores.
  • Coconut water is also a great source of electrolytes and can be consumed before, during or after your workout.
