Aly's Angle on Giving Compliments

Aly Vislocky Have you ever been caught off guard by a random stranger giving you a compliment? I remember standing in line to return something at Target, and the lady behind me said, “I love your sweatshirt; it’s such a pretty color on you.” I remember leaving the store feeling pretty, with a secret smile on my face.

An unexpected and genuine compliment is one of the sweetest gifts you can give someone. But don’t limit yourself to complimenting those you are close to; open yourself to complimenting complete strangers.

This is a really cool concept. Wherever you are, look around and find something or someone to compliment. It helps you step outside yourself and notice beautiful things. Right now, while writing this at Starbucks, I looked up to see an older woman with beautiful gray hair and two small children with impressive school projects. It’s important to notice such things, but it’s not enough: I should compliment them.

I can’t wait to compliment others this week. I want to compliment friends, and I hope to compliment the strangers I see. It’s a small thing I can do to make someone’s day a little better.
