As you walk around your house, you probably have an ongoing list of “to-dos” that need to be completed. When too many little tasks add up, they can become overwhelming. There are even days when these overwhelming chores and commitments become paralyzing.

Psychology Today reports that 20% of people avoid tasks and seek out distractions. Procrastination has a huge effect on our emotions because when we delay doing something important, we worry about it for the rest of the day. These stressors are on our minds, causing us to continue on this downward spiral. Soon, procrastination becomes a negative habit that is difficult to break.

Many times we are so focused on getting to our destination, we neglect doing simple actions along the way. Tasks we can complete in 30 seconds are probably the easiest and least stressful ones on our to-do lists, yet we still procrastinate. This week’s #bebetter52 challenge aims to change that. It is recognizing simple tasks that can be completed in 30 seconds and doing them. We can ease stress in our lives and accomplish more than we think possible.

Remember, these tasks are not intended to make your day more stressful, but rather to make it less chaotic, more peaceful and simplistic. Don’t set anything you can complete in 30 seconds aside; do it now.

You might think 30 seconds is not a lot of time, but you can accomplish much in that short period. Here are 10 ideas to get you started:

1. Make your bed when you wake up.

2. Wipe off the bathroom counter.

3. Wash your dish when you are finished with it.

4. Put away dirty clothes in the hamper.

5. Hang up clothes immediately after taking them off.

6. Send a quick response to a text or an email.

7. Fill up your water bottle.

8. Put away spice bottles and other food items back in their proper place.

9. Wipe down a couple of kitchen appliances.

10. Pull 10 weeds.

These are just a few ideas to kickstart your week. If you recognize something in your life you would like to improve, please do it! Let us know how it went by reporting your challenge!
