As you walk around your house, you probably have an ongoing list of things that need to be completed. All day long you feel like you are carrying around a load of things to do. Sometimes that load becomes too much, so you just give up and do nothing. Sometimes we don’t realize that little tasks add up and become an overwhelming list of things that need to be accomplished. This week, with respect to Creating a Routine Challenge, we will be adding the Be BETTER Challenge of completing 30-second tasks. There are ways to avoid becoming overwhelmed by the lists in our head. One way is eliminating the tasks that only take 30 seconds.
You might think 30 seconds is not a lot of time, but you can get a lot done in that short period.
- Put your dishes in the dishwasher within 30 seconds after you finish eating.
- Clean out the day’s trash from your car within 30 seconds.
- Put dirty clothes in the hamper
- Wipe the counters
- Answer a text message, or send a quick email
When you are tempted not to finish a task, ask yourself, “Can I do this in 30 seconds?” If the answer is yes, finish it right then. You will be amazed at how much you can accomplish.
